Where there is hope, there is faith.
Where there is faith, miracles happen.
Hello, my name is Dimitra Mitossis.
I am married to my biggest supporter and
have three amazing children.
I am a patient at the Columbia University
Department of Neurology in New York.
I was diagnosed with Familial ALS in April
of 2021. About 5-10% of ALS cases are
familial. I am strong in my faith and have
hope that one day this disease will
be curable.
"My life is so blessed with some of the
most amazing people. Thank you for being
part of my journey".
Why The Name Team Nektarios?
When I was first diagnosed with ALS,
I went to see my priest, Father Nektarios of
St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
Father gave me guidance that ignited my
journey closer to faith and God.
I had spoken about my trip to go to Greece.
He told me to go to Aegina, to seek
Gerontisa Timothei at Agios Nektarios
Monastery. Truly I had no idea where Aegina
was but my heart was set on going.
With a letter from Father, I set off on
Gerontisa Timothei at Agios Nektarios
Monastery. Truly I had no idea where Aegina
was but my heart was set on going.
With a letter from Father, I set off on
my pilgrimage with my family by my side.
A strong connection was made that day.
I am thankful, grateful, and blessed for the
time I spent in Greece. After visiting
Agios Nektarios and many other beautiful
monasteries I came back home a new person.
One who became devoted to her
faith in God with newfound enlightenment.
faith in God with newfound enlightenment.
Agios Nektarios is one of the most renowned
Greek saints. He is best known for his
innumerable miracles and his healing abilities.
It is said that visitors that leave his monastery
leave with the love and peace that Agios Nektarios
gave to all when he lived. This is the
reason why we chose the name Team Nektarios.
To honor Agios Nektarios and our priest,
Father Nektarios, who both have a
big piece of my heart.
"We are in this together", as my priest and
big piece of my heart.
"We are in this together", as my priest and
family always say.

ABOUT ALS
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to provide help and hope today!
